iInventory Upgrade

Upgrading from v6.3.4 to v7
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IMPORTANT! Follow these instructions carefully to avoid unnecessary data loss. Note that the v7 import v6 database feature can import data from any format of v6 database (Access, SQL Server, MSDE) to *any* v7 format (Access, SQL Server, MSDE). The database formats need not match.

To upgrade successfully you should:

Back up your audit database/s to a location outside of the Program Files/iInventory V6/ folder. Your audit databases are stored in /iInventory V6/Databases.

Back up the software.mdb file from the Program Files/iInventory V6/System folder to a location outside of the iInventory V6 folder.

Install v7 (on the same PC is ok) and enter your license key. Then create a new empty v7 database of any name.

With iInventory v6 closed, use the v7 feature Tools > Database Tools > Import iInventory v6 data to import your audit data. Your v6 database is unchanged.
This import process will transfer details details of computer (Windows, Mac & Linux) and general equipment assets, user-defined software, and software licenses.
